 When visiting a new place, I always ask myself, “What makes the place unique compared to other places I’ve been?” I will never forget my first visit to Hong Kong about twenty years ago. The sophisticated mix of Asian culture with a Western influence made the city remarkably distinctive.  The complexity of Hong Kong with its shabby, old houses, traditional markets and narrow alleyways in contrasts with the modern contemporary architecture, sophisticated, futuristic malls and congested, busy streets making the whole experience surreal.  The camera replicates my mind which draws intangible patterns of shapes, forms, textures and colors which collide in inexplicable ways.
       
     
 My fabrication of still life is not necessarily reflecting ideas of the past, or justifying the present time. I used photography and digital possibilities to visualize my personal ideas based on the ordinariness of everyday life. In these fabricated images I transformed three –dimensional installation sets into two- dimensional space and combined them with photographic images from my travel experiences. This was an attempt to recreate a realistic impression of contemporary still life. “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.”

    Sometimes standing at the traffic lights in the middle of a crowd, I close my eyes hoping that when I open them, the streets will be peacefully empty just as at night, and all movements will stand stiil .
       
     
       
     
       
     
 As a Westerner living in Hong Kong, I never stop wandering. My mind continuously searches for views that would articulate the complicated structure of the cityscape.  The city elements of shapes, forms, textures and colors juxtaposed in an inexplicable ways. These layers are my daily bases surreal communication between the city and I.
